Doorway cut out of an interior concrete wall

A new doorway had to come out of an interior concrete wall in a building that was still being lived and worked in. The opening was set out on the wall first, and everything on the far side was sheeted off before a blade went anywhere near it.

We cut the verticals and the horizontal first with the Husqvarna K2500 hand saw, then brought the larger hydraulic saw in to finish the cuts through the wall. Starting with the lighter pre cut saw is faster and safer than swinging the heavy gear at a wall from cold, and our process for these has got a lot better since we added it.

The wall came out in pieces small enough to carry, which is what you want in a hallway rather than one lump nobody can move.

On a job like this most of the time goes on protecting the area and cleaning it up, not on cutting. The client got a finished opening and a floor they could walk on the same day.

What it looked like

Photographed on the job at the time, on a phone, in the state the site was actually in.

What this shows

The three things a job like this is judged on

  • Compliance

Sheeted off, hoses and vac run to the saw, and the rest of the building kept out of the dust and the water.

  • Quality

Pre cut with the hand saw so the lines are true, then finished with the hydraulic saw rather than knocked through.

  • Speed

Set out, cut, cleared and cleaned in one visit to an occupied building.

Where this one fits

This job is wall sawing work, and the service page has the depths, diameters and kit behind it. Timaru is on our normal run, so if you have something similar there we are not making a special trip.
